Here's a Scudder's Bush Katydid (Scudderia sp.)* nymph on Sand Coreopsis. Katydids undergo "incomplete metamorphosis." That means they don't pop out as fully formed adults after metamorphosis like butterflies do. You can see the stubby little beginnings of wings, but this nymph will have to go through several molts before finally getting full adult wings.
